Best Outdoor Furniture by Material, Weather and Budget

Five outdoor furniture sets from $99.99 to $2,220, with size, weight, care and winter advice from each brand where printed, and which suits wind, sun or rain.

An outdoor dining table with wooden slat chairs on metal frames on a sunny patio beside a garden wall with red flowers

The cushions are still damp two days after the rain, the light chairs have ended up against the railing, and the table you bought for its photo is too small for the four chairs you meant to put round it. Buying by the picture or the price hides how far apart outdoor sets are: across the five below, the price runs from $99.99 to $2,220, and one page prints 91 lb for a table and two chairs while another lists a single dining chair at 12 lb. The checks that sort that out come first, then five sets for the best outdoor furniture search, each with who it suits, the figures from its own page and a drawback.

The short answer

Pick Best for Frame Price (reference)
IKEA TÄRNÖ table and 2 chairs Only if budget matters more than upkeep: it asks for regular re-staining Acacia on powder-coated steel $99.99
POLYWOOD Vineyard Folding Chair 3-Piece Dining Set Wind, weather and winters outside HDPE lumber $1,095
Yardbird Palmer Conversation Set Two plush, cushioned seats and a side table Powder-coated aluminum $1,365
Yardbird Harriet Outdoor Loveseat A damp porch that needs one loveseat HDPE wicker on aluminum $1,455
Yardbird Lily 5-Piece Round Dining Set Dinners for four Powder-coated aluminum $2,220

Each price is for the colour or fabric named in its pick below.

What should you check before you buy outdoor furniture?

Five checks sort these sets, and each is a number or a line you can find on a listing.

  1. The frame against your weather. The long version of HDPE, aluminum, wicker and teak is in our patio furniture guide, and teak is left to it, so here is only what each page says. IKEA’s TÄRNÖ is solid acacia with powder-coated steel legs; the POLYWOOD set is HDPE lumber; Harriet is woven HDPE wicker on a rust-proof aluminum frame, in Yardbird’s words; Palmer and Lily are powder-coated aluminum, which Yardbird describes as rust-proof.
  2. Weight against wind. Read the weight on the page, not the photo. POLYWOOD prints 91 lb for its set and says it withstands storms and strong winds; Yardbird prints 50 lb for the Lily table, 12 lb a Lily chair and 53 lb for the Harriet loveseat; IKEA prints package weights; the Palmer page prints none. A set whose page prints no weight is worth a question before you order (our suggestion).
  3. The cushions, and how they dry. Yardbird’s care guide says Sunbrella fabric is highly water-resistant but heavy or steady rain still wets the cushions, which typically need 1 to 3 days in the sun to dry, longer in humid weather, and that drying them properly is essential for the foam. Palmer and Harriet use Sunbrella cushions on their pages, and Lily’s page offers Shale or Milano cushions without naming the fabric. IKEA sells cushions separately, and the POLYWOOD page lists none.
  4. The footprint. Take the overall size from the page and tape it on the floor, chairs pulled out as well (our suggestion). Of the four pages that print an overall size, the figures run from 55.5 x 34.75 inches for the Harriet loveseat up to 97 x 97 inches for the whole Lily set; IKEA prints sizes for the table and chair only.
  5. How it arrives, and the care the maker asks for. IKEA ships its set as 3 packages. POLYWOOD says freight delivery does not include removing the packaging, and its white-glove upgrade, at extra cost, adds assembly and placement. Harriet needs its legs attached, which its page calls light assembly. Winter advice is below, as each maker gives it.

IKEA TÄRNÖ Table and 2 Chairs, Outdoor, Black/Light Brown Stained

$99.99Price for reference onlyTable 21⅝ x 21 x 27½ in · folds flat · 3 packagesView it on the brand's site →

Only if budget matters more than upkeep: it asks for regular re-staining. It suits a first set on a balcony or in a corner of the deck, and is the one of the five under $100. The seat, back and tabletop are solid acacia with an acrylic stain, on steel legs with a polyester powder coating, and the chairs and table fold flat. The chair is 15 inches wide and 31 high with a seat 17¾ inches high. For the care it asks, IKEA says to clean with a mild soapy solution and wipe dry, to store it indoors if possible, and, if it stays outside, to cover it with a waterproof cover and wipe excess water or snow off flat surfaces.

Drawbacks: The care text asks you to re-stain the wood regularly, for example once or twice a year, so on paper it is the most upkeep of the five (our reading), the opposite of a low-upkeep set. The table is 21⅝ by 21 inches and the chair seat is 11 inches deep, a set for coffee or a light meal for two (our reading). Cushions are sold separately.

POLYWOOD Vineyard Folding Chair 3-Piece Dining Set

$1,095 (Slate Grey)Price for reference onlyTable 31 x 31 x 29 in · seats 2 · set weight 91 lbView it on the brand's site →

For a windy balcony or a winter spent outside. The page says the set withstands storms and strong winds and is low-maintenance and easy to clean, and the set weighs 91 lb. At $1,095 it costs about 11 times the IKEA set for the same two seats (our arithmetic). Its lumber is HDPE that is not prone to splinter, crack, chip, peel or rot, with ColorStay for fade resistance and 18-8 marine-grade stainless fasteners with a Xylan coating. The chairs fold and tuck under the table, and the slatted top has thin gaps for water drainage and a 1.625 inch umbrella hole. The page’s recommended minimum space is 81 inches wide by 39 high by 31 deep, as printed. POLYWOOD’s winter guide says the frames can stay outside uncovered year-round, and its care page cleans them with mild dish soap, warm water and a soft brush.

Drawbacks: Two seats, and the table is 31 inches square. The page lists no cushions. Freight delivery does not include removing the packaging; the white-glove upgrade, at extra cost, adds assembly and placement. Slate Grey is the lowest of ten colours: the other nine run $1,195 to $1,549.

Yardbird Palmer Conversation Set

$1,365 (Granite)Price for reference only2 chairs 30 x 33.5 x 34.5 in each · side table 18.5 x 20.25 x 17.5 inView it on the brand's site →

For two people who want plush, cushioned seats and a side table on aluminum. The frames are dark gray powder-coated aluminum in a satin finish, which the page calls rust-proof commercial-grade aluminum, and the cushions are Sunbrella. Granite and Dove are the same price. The set measures 86.25 x 33.5 x 34.5 inches overall, each seat is listed for about 350 lb, and aluminum clips join the frames, so more Palmer pieces can be added later, as the page describes the modular design (our reading).

Drawbacks: The page text prints no weights, and its FAQ says the cushions are not attached to the frame, so on a windy deck decide where loose cushions go (our suggestion). For winter, Yardbird's steps are to take the cushions in and cover the frames.

Yardbird Harriet Outdoor Loveseat

$1,455 (Silver)Price for reference only55.5 x 34.75 x 36.5 in · 53 lb · seats 2 (our reading)View it on the brand's site →

For a damp porch that needs a place to sit for two. The page describes the furniture as woven HDPE wicker over a rust-proof commercial-grade aluminum frame, and Yardbird’s care guide says its wicker is 100% HDPE, which has antimicrobial properties that inhibit fungus and mildew growth. Silver and Mist are the same price. The loveseat has adjustable leveling feet and is listed for about 350 lb per seat. To clean it, Yardbird’s guide says to take the cushions off, hose it down and work mild soap and lukewarm water into the weave with a soft brush.

Drawbacks: One loveseat only: the page's set list is a single loveseat, so a table or chairs are extra. The legs have to be attached, which its page FAQ calls light assembly. The Sunbrella cushions can still get wet in heavy or steady rain and then typically take 1 to 3 days in the sun to dry, per Yardbird's care guide.

Yardbird Lily 5-Piece Round Outdoor Dining Set

$2,220 (Shale)Price for reference onlyRound table 53 x 53 x 29 in, 4 chairs · set 97 x 97 x 36.5 inView it on the brand's site →

For dinners for four, and the one pick with four seats; the other four seat two. The lattice-back chairs and the round table are rust-proof aluminum in a dark espresso brown powder coating, with Shale or Milano cushions at the same price. The table is 53 inches across and 29 high and weighs 50 lb; each chair is 24.5 x 26.5 x 36.5 inches, is listed for about 350 lb, and the chairs stack up to 4 high. The table has a 2 inch hole for a 1.5 inch umbrella pole.

Drawbacks: The dearest and largest of the five: 97 x 97 inches in all. At 12 lb a chair it is easy to move and, our reading, easy for a gust to shift. The page names fitted covers for staying outside year-round, and Yardbird sells covers as separate products.

Which one suits your weather and space?

The best patio furniture for a gusty balcony is not the best for a wet porch, so here it is by situation, using only the figures above.

A windy balcony or deck. Of the five pages, the POLYWOOD one says the set withstands storms and strong winds, and it prints 91 lb for the set. The Lily chairs are 12 lb each and the Harriet loveseat is 53 lb. IKEA prints package weights only, 9 lb 3 oz for a chair package and 13 lb 11 oz for the table, the lightest figures here, and the Palmer page prints no weights and says its cushions are not attached (our reading: ask about those four before ordering for a gusty spot).

A wet climate. The two HDPE sets fit best on paper: POLYWOOD describes its lumber as not prone to rot, and Yardbird describes HDPE wicker as inhibiting fungus and mildew. Plan for the cushions on Palmer, Harriet and Lily: Yardbird’s care guide says its Sunbrella cushions typically take 1 to 3 days in the sun to dry (Lily’s page does not name the fabric). IKEA’s acacia is the one that asks you to re-stain regularly, for example once or twice a year, to keep moisture out.

A hot, sunny patio. Of the five product pages, only POLYWOOD’s says anything about fade: the set’s lumber has UV inhibitor compounds that lock in lasting color and fade resistance, per the page, and its care page suggests keeping furniture and cushions out of direct sunlight if possible to reduce fading. The IKEA, Palmer, Harriet and Lily pages print nothing on fade or UV, so for those four ask the maker (our suggestion).

Winters outside. POLYWOOD’s guide says its frames can stay out uncovered. For Yardbird’s sets the guide asks you to move them into a garage, shed or basement if you can; otherwise remove the cushions, keep the frames right side up, cover them, and store the cushions above 40 degrees F. IKEA says to use a waterproof cover and wipe excess water or snow off flat surfaces.

A small patio or balcony. Start with the footprint on each page: the IKEA table is 21⅝ x 21 inches and folds flat, the POLYWOOD set asks for 81 inches of width, and the Harriet loveseat is 55.5 inches wide. Our small patio ideas cover how to lay out a tight space, and patio ideas covers the floor, shade and screens to sort out before the furniture arrives.

Where these numbers come from

Sizes, weights, materials, care and winter steps come from each brand’s own product page and care or winter guide, read on 19 October 2026, and the prices are the ones those pages showed without a code that day. The IKEA set’s weights are its package weights as listed. The price ratio is our arithmetic.

Frequently asked questions

Which of these outdoor sets needs the least upkeep?

On what the five pages say (our reading), the POLYWOOD Vineyard set asks the least: its page calls it low-maintenance and easy to clean with soap, water and a soft brush, and POLYWOOD's winter guide says its frames can stay outside uncovered year-round. Yardbird calls its aluminum frames maintenance-free and says most care is mild soap and water, but its sets come with cushions to dry and store, and its winter guide says to move them into a garage, shed or basement if you can, and otherwise to remove the cushions and cover the frames; the POLYWOOD set lists no cushions. The IKEA set's care text asks you to re-stain the wood regularly, for example once or twice a year, so it asks the most. Our patio furniture guide covers the materials in full.

How much does good patio furniture cost?

On these five pages the price runs from $99.99 for the IKEA table and two chairs to $2,220 for the Yardbird round table and four chairs. The four above $1,000 are $1,095 (POLYWOOD table and two chairs), $1,365 (Yardbird Palmer, two chairs and a side table), $1,455 (Yardbird Harriet, one loveseat) and $2,220. Each is the price the page showed without a code for the colour or fabric named in its pick, and is for reference only.

What outdoor furniture is best for a windy balcony?

On these five pages, the POLYWOOD Vineyard set is the one that says it withstands storms and strong winds, and it prints 91 lb for the table and two chairs. The Yardbird Lily chairs are listed at 12 lb each and the Harriet loveseat at 53 lb. IKEA lists package weights only, 9 lb 3 oz for a chair package and 13 lb 11 oz for the table, the lightest figures printed here. The Palmer page prints no weights and says its cushions are not attached to the frame (our reading: check those four before ordering for a gusty spot).

Can outdoor furniture stay outside in winter?

It depends on the maker. POLYWOOD's winter guide says its frames can stay outside uncovered year-round. Yardbird's winter steps for its sets are to remove the cushions, keep frames right side up, cover them, and store the cushions somewhere above 40 degrees F. IKEA's care text for the TÄRNÖ set says to store it indoors if possible and, if it stays outside, to use a waterproof cover and wipe excess water or snow off flat surfaces.
