Best Sheets: Picks for Hot Sleepers, Cold Sleepers and More

The best sheets for hot sleepers, cold sleepers and deep mattresses: six queen sets from $99.90 to $389, each with its fibre, pocket depth and a real drawback.

A bed made up with white sheets, a white duvet and white pillows

You wake up too warm at 3 a.m., or you roll over and the corner of the fitted sheet springs off the mattress. A higher thread count won’t fix either: on one maker’s comparison chart, the linen and flannel rows give a fabric weight in GSM where the percale and sateen rows give a thread count, so the number on the pack can’t rank a linen against a percale (our reading). What changes how a sheet sleeps is the fibre, the weave and how deep the fitted pocket goes, so below are six queen sets, one for each common complaint, from $99.90 to $389, each with who it suits, what its maker prints, a drawback and the price.

The short answer

Three questions to answer before you pick a set

1. Do you sleep hot, cold or in between?

Two sheet makers sort their own fabrics by warmth, and on three of the four fabrics both charts rate (percale, linen, flannel and sateen) they agree:

  • You run hot: percale or linen. Percale and linen are both “Sleeps cool” on Quince’s fabric chart, which also files bamboo and silk there. Brooklinen’s chart points its percale at anyone who runs warm and its linen at anyone who overheats.
  • You run cold: flannel or brushed cotton. Flannel and brushed cotton are “Sleeps warm” on Quince’s chart; on Brooklinen’s, flannel is for people who run chilly or live in a cold climate.
  • Sateen is where these two charts split. Quince marks its sateen “Sleeps warm”. On the chart on Brooklinen’s product pages, its sateen is for “All sleepers, all climates”; its own percale-vs-sateen comparison sends hot sleepers to percale and gives sateen’s denser weave “a cozy, enveloping feel”.
  • Linen has a third view. One linen maker recommends its linen for warm or cool sleepers alike (see the Parachute set below).

Each chart rates only its own maker’s fabrics, and both are descriptions, not measurements. How the two cotton weaves differ in feel, wrinkles and wear is in our percale vs sateen guide.

2. How deep is your mattress, with the topper on?

Measure from the bottom edge of the mattress to the top of whatever sits on it, topper or pillow-top included, and buy a fitted sheet cut for at least that depth (our suggestion).

Four of the six sets below are cut for mattresses up to 16 inches. One maker gives 12 to 16 inches as the best fit for its 16-inch sheets, and another calls 16 inches its standard depth and makes a 22-inch pocket for deeper mattresses such as pillow-tops and box-tops. So if your mattress and topper measure more than 16 inches, only two of the six are cut for it: the Cozy Earth set (18 inches, stretching to 20) and the Avocado set (up to 22) (our reading).

3. What do you want to spend?

The six queen sets run from $99.90 to $389. One is under $100, the Quince percale in its solid colours; four sit between $212 and $258; the linen costs the most at $389. On three of the six pages the patterned or striped colourways cost $4.10 to $20 more than the solids in queen (our arithmetic).

The six sets, by what you need

Quince Organic Crisp Percale Sheet Set

$99.90 (queen)Price for reference only100% organic long-staple cotton · percale · 280 or 270 thread count · fits mattresses up to 16 in · twin to split kingView it on the brand's site →

Best for hot sleepers who like a crisp sheet, and for a full queen set under $100. It is cotton percale with “the crisp, breathable feel of your favorite dress shirt”, described as cool, breathable and lightly crisp, and Quince’s own chart files its percale under “Sleeps cool”. The queen set is a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and two standard pillowcases. Care is a cool machine wash, tumble dry low or hang dry, and remove promptly.

Drawbacks: The page gives two thread counts, 280 in its details list and 270 in its FAQ. The pocket stops at 16 inches, too shallow for a deep pillow-top. The $99.90 is for the 14 solid colourways; the gingham and floral versions cost $104 to $114 in queen.

Brooklinen Cool TENCEL™ Core Sheet Set

$219 (queen)Price for reference only70% TENCEL™ lyocell, 30% cotton percale · fits mattresses up to 16 in · twin to Cal KingView it on the brand's site →

Best for hot sleepers who find percale too crisp. The page’s “How It Feels” line is “If you overheat nightly or live in a hot climate”. The blend is 70% TENCEL lyocell and 30% cotton percale, described as cool to the touch and fluid in the way it drapes, with a smooth, matte look. A queen set is a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and two pillowcases.

Drawbacks: It is a blend, not all cotton; if you want 100% cotton and a crisp feel, the Quince percale costs about $119 less (our arithmetic). The fitted sheet suits mattresses up to 16 inches, with 12 to 16 inches the best fit. The three striped colourways cost $239.

Parachute Linen Sheet Set

$389 (queen)Price for reference only100% European flax · 175 GSM · fits mattresses up to 16 in · full to Cal KingView it on the brand's site →

Best for a relaxed, textured linen sheet, whether you run warm or cool. Parachute recommends it “for warm or cool sleepers” and says it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter, while the two charts above put linen on the cool side: “Sleeps cool” on Quince’s, and for people who overheat on Brooklinen’s. It is 100% European flax at 175 GSM, made in Portugal, and the size guide gives the queen fitted sheet as 60 x 80 x 16 inches.

Drawbacks: The most expensive set here. The page lists the set as a fitted sheet, a top sheet and “1x Pillowcase Set” without saying how many pillowcases that is. Expect lint in the dryer at first; the page says it will reduce after about five washes.

Cozy Earth Soft-Wash Cotton Sheet Set

$258 (queen)Price for reference only100% long-staple cotton · sateen · 300 thread count · fitted sheet 18 in deep, stretches to 20 in · twin/twin XL to split kingView it on the brand's site →

Best for a smooth sheet that feels broken-in from night one. It is a sateen weave in long-staple cotton, soft-washed so it feels soft and lived-in from the first night, and the page says it grows softer with every wash without pilling. The fitted sheet is 18 inches deep and can stretch to 20, the deepest pocket here after the Avocado. A queen set is a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two standard pillowcases.

Drawbacks: Sateen is the weave the two product-page charts above disagree on, and the brand's own FAQ suggests its bamboo sheets may suit very hot sleepers a little better. The two striped colourways cost $278. Twin and twin XL share one size option.

Crane & Canopy Soft White Flannel Sheet Set

$219 (queen)Price for reference only100% brushed cotton flannel · 5.6 oz weight · 16 in pocket with full surround elastic · twin to Cal KingView it on the brand's site →

Best for cold sleepers and chilly bedrooms. It is 100% brushed cotton with a “velvety cozy texture perfect for snuggling on chilly nights”, and the page also calls it breathable for year-round use; both charts above put flannel on the warm side. The fitted sheet has elastic all the way round, and a queen set is a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two standard pillowcases. Care is a cold machine wash, tumble dry low, remove promptly and a warm iron as needed.

Drawbacks: The weight is given as 5.6 oz with no area unit, so you can't line it up against flannels sold by GSM (our reading). The pocket is 16 inches, so not for a deep pillow-top.

Avocado Deep Pocket Organic Cotton Sheets

$212 (queen)Price for reference onlyGOTS-certified organic cotton · sateen · 400 thread count, single-ply · fits mattresses up to 22 in · twin to split kingView it on the brand's site →

Best for a pillow-top, a box-top or a thick topper. The fitted sheet fits mattresses up to 22 inches, the deepest of the six, and on the maker’s page, deep pockets stay put and fit more comfortably on a deeper mattress. The sheets are a 400 thread count single-ply sateen in GOTS-certified organic cotton, described as wrinkle-resistant. A queen set is a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases.

Drawbacks: On a mattress well under 22 inches, expect spare fabric to tuck under (our reading); the maker's own standard sheets are 16 inches deep. It is sateen, which Quince's chart marks “Sleeps warm”. Only two colours, Natural and White, and the care label rules out fabric softener and bleach.

Before you order

  • Measure the depth. Mattress plus topper, bottom edge to top, then check it against the pocket in the table above (our suggestion).
  • Match the size exactly. Fitted sheets go by the exact mattress size; a queen fitted sheet is 60 by 80 inches on all six size charts here. King fitted sheets run 76 or 78 inches wide: 78 on Cozy Earth’s page, 76 on the other five product pages (Crane & Canopy’s separate size chart gives 78). Fitted sheets can run a little over the mattress. Our bed sizes chart has every standard size from twin to California king in inches, and if you are still choosing between a full and a queen, see queen vs full.
  • Count what’s in the set. Five of the six queen sets list a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases; the Parachute page lists a pillowcase set without a count. Twin sets come with one pillowcase at Quince, Cozy Earth and Avocado, and standard pillowcases vary, from 20 x 26.5 inches at Parachute to 20 x 32 at Crane & Canopy and Avocado, on all six pages.
  • Read the care label. Quince says wash cool, Crane & Canopy cold and Cozy Earth warm; Avocado asks for cool water and no fabric softener, and Parachute warns of lint in the first few washes.

For what goes on top of the sheets, from the duvet to the quilt, see our bedding guide.

Where these numbers come from

Fibres, weaves, thread counts, pocket depths, set contents and care come from each brand’s own product page, and the warmth ratings from the fabric charts on Quince’s and Brooklinen’s product pages. Prices are the queen prices shown on those pages without a discount code, read on 17 October 2026. Counts across the six sets, such as how many fit a mattress over 16 inches, are our own.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best sheets for hot sleepers?

On the two sheet makers' fabric charts read here, percale and linen are on the cool side: Quince files both under sleeps cool, and Brooklinen points percale at people who run warm and linen at people who overheat. Of the six sets here, the Quince Organic Crisp Percale ($99.90 queen) is the crisp choice, and the Brooklinen Cool TENCEL ($219), a lyocell and cotton percale blend its page pitches at people who overheat nightly, is the smooth one.

Which sheets fit a deep mattress?

Measure the mattress with any topper on first. Four of the six sets here are cut for mattresses up to 16 inches deep. The Cozy Earth fitted sheet is 18 inches deep and can stretch to 20, and the Avocado Deep Pocket fitted sheet fits mattresses up to 22 inches.

Does a higher thread count mean better sheets?

Not on its own. Three of the six sets here print a thread count for themselves: 280 or 270 (the Quince page gives both), 300 and 400. The linen is sold at 175 GSM and the flannel at a 5.6 oz weight instead, and one sheet maker's FAQ says thread count isn't always an accurate measurement of softness, strength and quality. Compare counts only between sheets of the same weave (our suggestion).

Can you get a good queen sheet set under $100?

One of the six here is under $100: the Quince Organic Crisp Percale queen set at $99.90 in its solid colours, with a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, two pillowcases and a pocket for mattresses up to 16 inches. Its gingham and floral versions cost $104 to $114.
