Best Cooling Sheets for Hot Sleepers, Compared by Fabric
Six queen cooling sheet sets, $199 to $389, grouped by fabric (percale, linen, lyocell, bamboo), each with its feel, pocket depth, care and a drawback.

You wake up at 3 a.m. with the sheet stuck to your back, and the usual fix is to shop for a higher thread count. On one maker’s chart, though, the percale it points at people who run warm is 270 thread count, while its 480 thread count cotton sateen is for “All sleepers, all climates”, so the number does not sort sheets by warmth (our reading). Below are six queen sets grouped by fabric, from $199 to $389, each with who it suits, the pocket depth and care its maker prints, a drawback and a price.
The short answer
| Pick | Fabric & weave | Best for | Price (reference) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brooklinen Classic Percale Core Sheet Set | Long-staple cotton, percale | A crisp, matte, shirt-like sheet | $199 |
| Parachute Percale Sheet Set | Long-staple Egyptian cotton, percale | Crisp cotton from a maker that files it under hot nights | $269 |
| Parachute Linen Sheet Set | European flax, linen | An airy, textured sheet | $389 |
| Buffy Breeze Sheet Set | Eucalyptus TENCEL™ lyocell, weave not stated | A soft, smooth sheet, tied for the lowest solid-colour price here | $199 |
| Ettitude Signature Bamboo Sheet Set | Bamboo lyocell, sateen | A silky sheet in lyocell rather than viscose | $359 |
| Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set | Bamboo viscose, sateen | A silky sheet for a deep mattress | $308 |
Queen prices for solid colours; the striped and patterned versions cost more on the Brooklinen and Cozy Earth pages, while Buffy’s print colourways list at $149 in queen.
What makes a sheet sleep cooler
Each of the six pages pitches its set at hot or warm sleepers, the Parachute linen at “warm or cool sleepers”. So the useful question is which fibre and weave suits the way you sleep (our reading). What the pages say, fibre by fibre:
- Cotton percale is the crisp, matte option. On the Classic Percale chart entry it is “Wonderfully crisp, cool”, for “If you ever run warm or live in a warmer climate”, and the weave is described as “one-yarn-over and one-yarn-under” with a matte finish. The Parachute percale page calls percale “lightweight, breathable and cool to the touch”.
- Linen is airy and relaxed. On the same Brooklinen chart its washed linen is “Super airy, relaxed”, for “If you ever overheat or live in a warmer climate”. Parachute recommends its own linen “for warm or cool sleepers” and says it “keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter”.
- Lyocell is argued from moisture. Hot sleep is “a moisture problem” on Buffy’s lyocell page, which cites a fibre test at 20°C and 60% humidity in which lyocell absorbed 9.23% of its weight in moisture against cotton’s 5.54%, and labels it “A controlled fiber test, not a finished-sheet measurement.”
- Bamboo comes as lyocell or viscose, and the pages say which. The Ettitude sheet is “100% CleanBamboo Lyocell” and the Cozy Earth sheet is “100% bamboo viscose”. Ettitude reports third-party lab testing on unwashed fabric in which its lyocell sateen was 13% cooler to the touch and wicked moisture 43% faster than “a leading bamboo viscose sateen sheet”, which the page does not name. Cozy Earth’s FAQ compares its viscose with cotton instead: “Bamboo viscose is generally more breathable and moisture-wicking than most cotton sheets.” Neither page tests the two sets against each other (our reading), and “cool to the touch” is a first-contact measure, not a night-long temperature (our reading).
Weave matters on top of fibre. Percale is the plain crisp weave above; Cozy Earth describes its sateen as a “Breathable sateen weave allows air to circulate” and Ettitude as a “breathable sateen weave”, and Buffy’s page does not name a weave. Our percale vs sateen guide has the weave detail: feel, wrinkles and wear.
Thread count does not sort these sets either. Only one of the six pages prints a thread count for its own set, 270 for the Brooklinen percale. Ettitude’s listing says “1,000 thread count sateen weave”, but its comparison block says “comparable to cotton 1,000 thread count”, a feel reference rather than a count, so we leave it out of the tally (our reading). Different fibres and weaves also mean the numbers do not rank the sets (our reading).

The six sets, by fabric
Prices are queen, solid colours. Pocket depth is the depth printed in each maker’s own size guide for the queen fitted sheet.
Cotton percale
Brooklinen Classic Percale Core Sheet Set
Best for hot sleepers who want the crisp, matte, shirt-like sheet at the lowest solid-colour price here, tied with the Buffy. The product page’s own line is “Cool, crisp, and ideal for hot sleepers”, and its chart compares the feel to “Your favorite button-down”. Care is a cold wash with like colours, tumble dry low and prompt removal. A queen set is a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases.
Drawbacks: Crisp is the design, so it is not the silky feel of the lyocell and bamboo sets below. The fitted sheet is cut for mattresses up to 16 inches, with 12 to 16 inches the best fit. The striped and patterned colourways cost $219.
Parachute Percale Sheet Set
Best for a crisp cotton percale from a maker that files it under hot nights. The page’s line is “Recommended if you get hot at night”, and its fabric list describes the percale as “Crisp. Cool.” It is 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton, made in Portugal, with a 16-inch pocket. Choose between this and the Brooklinen on price and on the care and pocket details in the table below, since both pages describe a crisp percale (our reading).
Drawbacks: It costs $70 more than the Brooklinen percale in queen (our arithmetic), and the page prints no thread count to compare. The set is listed as a fitted sheet, a top sheet and “1x Pillowcase Set” with no pillowcase count, and the care line is “Machine washable” with no water temperature.
Linen
Parachute Linen Sheet Set
Best for hot sleepers who want an airy, textured sheet rather than a crisp or silky one. The page recommends it “for warm or cool sleepers”, so it is the one set here pitched at both ends of the thermostat, and it describes “a laid-back-yet-luxurious look with an airy weight”. The 175 GSM is a weight, not a thread count, so it cannot be set against the percale numbers (our reading).
Drawbacks: The most expensive set here. Expect lint in the dryer at first; the page says it will reduce after about five washes. The set is listed as a fitted sheet, a top sheet and “1x Pillowcase Set” with no pillowcase count, and the care line is “Machine washable” with no water temperature.
Lyocell and bamboo
Buffy Breeze Sheet Set
Best for hot sleepers who want a soft, smooth sheet without paying bamboo prices. The page describes “Buttery-soft, breathable sheets made for warm sleepers and sensitive skin”, woven from TENCEL lyocell from eucalyptus. At $199 it is $109 below the Cozy Earth and $160 below the Ettitude (our arithmetic). A queen set is a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and two pillowcases, and care is a cold wash and tumble dry low.
Drawbacks: The shallowest pocket of the six at 15 inches, even though the page lists a “Deep fitted sheet with elastic corner anchor bands”. The page names no weave and prints no thread count, and the cooling figures on it are maker-reported (a fibre-level test and an Intertek test cited on the page).
Ettitude Signature Bamboo Sheet Set
Best for hot sleepers who want a silky sateen and prefer lyocell to viscose. The page describes “Silky sateen made from 100% CleanBamboo® lyocell. Cool to the touch and moisture-wicking”, and a “1,000 thread count sateen weave”. A queen set is a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and two pillowcases. Care is a cold gentle wash, line dry or tumble dry low, with no bleach or fabric softener.
Drawbacks: The second most expensive of the six, and this page sells it in queen, king and Cal King only. The page says some pilling is normal for natural fibres, and its lab comparisons are maker-reported, on unwashed fabric and against a viscose sheet the page does not name.
Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set
Best for a deep mattress or topper and a silky bamboo sheet. The fitted sheet is 18 inches deep and the page says it stretches to fit mattresses up to 20 inches, the deepest pocket of the six. The fabric is described as “buttery-soft and silky smooth” and “naturally temperature-regulating”. A queen set is a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases. Care is a cold wash with no fabric softener or bleach, then shaking the sheets out between wash and dry.
Drawbacks: It is viscose, not lyocell, and the only viscose of the six. The page says slight shrinkage may occur over a few washes and that the sheen seen on arrival may subside. The striped and floral colourways cost $328.
How to choose between them
If you are unsure, start with the Brooklinen percale: it ties for the lowest solid-colour price here, and both its product page and its chart point it at people who run warm (our suggestion). The four checks below tell you when to pick something else.
- Crisp, smooth or textured? Brooklinen’s chart compares its percale to “Your favorite button-down” and its cotton sateen to “Your softest go-to pjs”. If you reach for the button-down, take one of the two percales. If you want the smooth side, the Buffy, Ettitude and Cozy Earth pages all use words like “Buttery-soft” or “Silky”. If you like a rumpled, airy sheet, the linen is the one (our reading).
- Wrinkles and care. Read the table below before you buy. Four of the six pages name a cold wash, and the two Parachute pages say only “Machine washable”. Three say to take the sheets out of the dryer promptly (Brooklinen, Ettitude, Cozy Earth), and the two bamboo pages, Ettitude and Cozy Earth, add shaking the sheets out between wash and dry and skipping fabric softener.
- Pocket depth. Measure the mattress with any topper on, from the bottom edge to the top (our suggestion). If it runs past 17 inches, the Cozy Earth is the only one of the six with a pocket cut that deep (our reading).
- Budget. In solid colours, two sets cost $199, the Brooklinen percale and the Buffy lyocell, and the rest run $269, $308, $359 and $389. Within a fabric, the two percales are $70 apart and the three lyocell and bamboo sets are $160 apart (our arithmetic). If $199 is too much, Buffy’s print colourways list at $149 in queen, and our best sheets guide has a queen cotton percale set at $99.90.
| Set | Queen fitted sheet depth | Wash | Dry and other |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brooklinen Classic Percale | 16 in (12 to 16 in best fit) | Cold, like colours | Tumble dry low, remove promptly; only non-chlorine bleach; low iron if needed |
| Parachute Percale | 16 in | “Machine washable” | Page links a percale care guide |
| Parachute Linen | 16 in | “Machine washable” | Lint in the dryer at first, reducing after about five washes |
| Buffy Breeze | 15 in | Cold | Tumble dry low |
| Ettitude Signature Bamboo | 17 in | Cold, gentle, like fabrics | Line dry or tumble dry low; shake out between wash and dry; remove immediately after drying; no bleach or fabric softener |
| Cozy Earth Bamboo | 18 in, stretches to 20 in | Cold, gentle detergent | Tumble dry on a regular cycle; shake out between wash and dry; remove slightly damp; no fabric softener or bleach |
Before you order

- Measure the depth. Mattress plus topper, bottom edge to top, then check it against the depth column in the table above (our suggestion).
- Match the size exactly. A queen fitted sheet is 60 by 80 inches on all six size guides; Ettitude prints it as 80 x 60. Our bed sizes chart lists the standard mattress sizes in inches.
- Count what is in the set. Four of the six list two pillowcases; both Parachute sets list “1x Pillowcase Set” without a count.
- Read the care label. The table above is each maker’s own line, and the trial and return terms are on the product pages linked above.
- Sharing the bed with someone who runs cold? Our best flannel sheets guide covers the other end.
Where these numbers come from
Fibres, weaves, thread counts, pocket depths, set contents and care come from each maker’s own product page, plus Brooklinen’s care guide and its fabric chart; the warmth pitches and the lab figures are maker-reported. Prices are the queen prices shown on those pages without a discount code, read on 24 October 2026. The counts across the six sets and the price gaps are our own.
Frequently asked questions
Which sheet fabric sleeps coolest?
No page read here tests all five fibres together. One maker’s comparison chart points its percale and linen at people who run warm or overheat and its sateen at “All sleepers, all climates”, two other pages set their own sheet against cotton or an unnamed viscose sheet, and one cites a fibre-level lyocell-versus-cotton test. Each of the six pages pitches its set at hot or warm sleepers, the Parachute linen at “warm or cool sleepers”, and the six sets cover cotton percale, linen, eucalyptus lyocell, bamboo lyocell and bamboo viscose, so the choice comes down to feel, care and fit (our reading).
Is bamboo lyocell cooler than bamboo viscose?
One maker says so for its own sheet: Ettitude reports third-party lab testing on unwashed fabric in which its bamboo lyocell sateen was 13% cooler to the touch than “a leading bamboo viscose sateen sheet”, which it does not name. The Cozy Earth page compares its bamboo viscose with cotton, not with lyocell, so neither page settles it for these two sets (our reading).
Does a higher thread count sleep cooler?
Not as a rule. Only one of the six pages prints a thread count for its own set: 270 for the Brooklinen percale, which its chart points at people who run warm. Ettitude’s listing says “1,000 thread count sateen weave”, while its comparison block says “comparable to cotton 1,000 thread count”, so we leave it out of the tally (our reading). Cozy Earth’s FAQ says thread count “isn’t always an accurate measurement of softness, strength, and quality”.
Which of these cooling sheets fit a deep mattress?
Measure the mattress with any topper on first. The printed queen fitted-sheet depths are 15 inches (Buffy), 16 (Brooklinen and both Parachute sets), 17 (Ettitude) and 18 (Cozy Earth, which its page says stretches to fit mattresses up to 20 inches).
